The Artz Centre on Hartland, Birch Green where this year provided with some funding to run a community based initiative on October 30th. The scheme was aimed at getting young people off the street to partake in a range of Halloween based activities, these ranged from a photography challenge to a host of group tasks designed to encourage team work and bring people together.
The event proved a huge success and was very well attended, with over 30 local children making their way up to the Artz Centre on the evening notoriously known as “Mizzy Night”. The highlight of the evening was when Formby based make-up artist Abby Smith came along to show and teach the children how to apply and create gory make-up with cuts and slashes everywhere.
The children were then allowed to pair up and have a go themselves, and some of the results were excellent. Abby said afterwards “To be given the opportunity to pass on what I’ve learned to these kids has been a real privilege. I’ve really enjoyed it, and I thank you for letting me be a part of something so beneficial to young people”.
The initiative proved to be a community wide success and will hopefully be continued year on year.
