KICKSTARTER BLOG: MEET JACK DAVIES

Tell us about yourself?

Bonjour!

Thankfully my name isn’t James like the other two kick-starters, but it does begin with a J. It’s Jack, Like Skellington or Sparrow, just not as cool. I am 20 years old and live in Skelmersdale. I started my kickstart role with the Artz Centre in August. I really like anything IT wise and that’s why I want to be an IT administrator. The Artz Centre has given me the chance to do what I do best.

What is your job role from day to day at the Artz Centre?

I work around 25 hours per week at the Artz centre.. Like I said above I am the Artz Centre IT Administrator, I have been currently making a database for the Artz team. It includes student information, their Artz awards and all of their chapters while being at the Artz Centre. I am basically putting all of the Artz data in one place so it is easy to find for the Artz team.

I’ve also got to put up with the clown that is James Reilly (that’s been the hardest part about the job). Jay is tolerable to a degree, but James? Nah.

What has been the most rewarding part of the job so far?

Most rewarding part about the job so far is making the Artz Teams life a little bit easier with the database. Also meeting new people, so far I’ve met a few people who have been great since day one. I havent been able to meet many new people since I’ve been stuck inside for awhile, thanks COVID! Its been refreshing to meet a few new people.

What challenges have you faced?

The only challenge I would say I’ve faced while working at The Artz Centre was not being able to come to work for three weeks because of COVID. It was brutal sitting at home doing nothing. Only good thing was not having to see James Reilly or Colin the cabbage.

What have you learnt from this experience?

I’ve learnt that The Artz Centre has done a lot of shows, considering I had to write the cast list down on the database for all of them. But seriously I somewhat learned to not be as quiet as I have been for the last few years, I’ve always had some anxiety around new people, so meeting people who are students and people who work at The Artz Centre has been great for me personally. Its also the first IT based role I have had after college, so its taught me how to work in an “office” based job (Although its been quite relaxed).

What’s next?

Honestly? Anything, I would really like to be an IT Administrator, but who knows what the future holds? I could become an astronaut or a human statue. I can do anything I guess. With 6 months experience as an IT Administrator now, I can hopefully go on and and get an IT based role. Although anywhere away from James Reilly is great! : )

Seriously though, Its been great working with the Artz Team, which includes James Reilly, kind of. They have all been very welcoming to me over the last three months, and I am looking forward for the next few months working at the Artz Centre.
