Tell us about yourself?

My name is James Duxbury, and I started my kickstart scheme in the summer. I’m 20 years old, a musician, and enjoy writing songs. Also, I enjoy spending time with family and friends socialising and having a boogie.

What is your job role from day to day at the Artz centre?

My job role is within Facilities Management.I have been assisting Mike (the manager) in all things, Artz Centre: from health and safety management to maintenance tasks, staffing the coffee shop, prepping, our Centres for our regular creative sessions. I have recently started helping out our director Mark in sessions, And I think this is a great opportunity to gain experience working with young people.

What has been the most rewarding part of the job so far?

The most rewarding part was delivering my workshop on improvised music in the artz master unplanned holiday camp. I Have not experienced anything like that before, and It was rewarding seeing the kids enjoy my session. It Has also sparked some motivation to work with young people in the future.Performing live again was awesome. Didn’t believe I would ever again so big thanks to the artz centre for that opportunity.

What challenges have you faced?

The most challenging part was planning and Facilitating my workshop. It was all new to me, but I enjoyed the challenge and now know what to add and how to make things better.

What have you learned from this experience?

I have learned that no matter what you do, it is important to be professional. For example, when cleaning the toilets, it is done with 100% same as serving a customer, doing maintenance, or brushing the floor.every job is complete with the same professional mindset.

What’s next?

Since joining the team I have been inspired to work with the youth, not quite sure in what department but if I can help young people in any way, even If that’s helping with their confidence or teaching them new skills or having an impact on their life.
