Saturday May 10th 2014 saw the first production for Artz Academy’s new Singerz group. They performed a showcase of musical theatre numbers from well known stage productions such as Wicked, Hairspray and the unforgettable Les Miserables. The event was a huge success, after 3 months of rehearsals and preparations, the cast were ready to go.
It hadn’t been the easiest journey as vocal coaches Mike Ashton and Laura Keating challenged the students to push themselves out of their comfort zone into roles that would really test their ability. Each and every student applied themselves excellently to the task, even those as young as 7 years old performed way ahead of their young years.
Combining the talents of students of varying ages was always going to be a test, but it was a test that Mike and Laura embraced. The seniors are always very supportive of their younger protégés, and no more so in this production as the juniors paired up with the seniors to perform at an equally high level, in some of the toughest songs ever to go to stage.
The Artz Centre was packed to the rafters with family and friends, and even a mass of fellow Artz students who had come to support.
Mike said “this is the best show yet, and the students have made me realise just how much talent we have here at Artz, makes us all so proud!” The students celebrated their success with a chilled out after party at the Artz Centre as they look forward to their next production at Halloween “Fright Night”.
