Working in partnership with Lathom High School, Artz Centre are about to launch an exciting new project with the school’s newest recruits. For the first time ever we will be commissioned to bring The Artz Centre magic to the theatre and help produce a full scale musical production with pupils from Year 7.
This project forms part of a bigger picture for the school who are keen to explore innovative new ways of engaging pupils and unleashing the power of the performing arts to help young people fulfil their potential. The project will be officially launched in January 2024 and will be staged later next year.
Our Executive Director and former Lathom High School Pupil (1994-1999) had this to say about the exciting news of the project.
“This is such an exciting and important opportunity for everyone. My fondest memories of being at this school came from being in the theatre and engaging in big school shows. This is where my real love for theatre was ignited. The school had become famous for it!
“I often struggled to engage with school, I spent years using the influence I had to disrupt; and although I clearly had academic potential it was my involvement in drama and PE that helped me change my own school narrative. I went from someone that spent the first 3 years stood outside of the classrooms to achieving some of the highest GCSE grades in the school. To this day, I put this all down to my involvement in school sports teams and The Performing Arts”
The Headteacher of Lathom, Jane Galbraith said she is;
‘absolutely delighted to welcome Artz Centre back to Lathom, and The Arts are so, so important in the development of all young people and play a significant part in our ‘Life at Lathom’. I cannot wait to see the results of this exciting partnership!’
