If lockdown has taught us one thing, it’s that when the going gets tough, the tough get going! And it’s safe to say that we’ve felt an immense sense of pride and gratitude toward each and every member of our small community who have taken action or have contributed in a multitude of ways to help us, during these difficult times. To be truthful, at times we’ve even felt a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of unwavering support that we have received; and our next inspirational story contains a heartfelt thank you to one of our brilliant Artz parents.
We met Amanda back in 2017, when her son, Kyle, began attending several of our weekly classes. An Artz Award for Junior Musical Achievement and 17 performances later, Kyle is well and truly part of the Artz woodwork; and we’ve also seen big sister Chloe, and Amanda herself, take to the stage, during Artz productions, too!
Yet, it still came as a wonderful surprise when Amanda announced that for her upcoming locked-down birthday, she would be accepting donations in her name to the Artz Centre, instead of birthday cards or presents. Once more we were taken a-back by such a supportive gesture.
Amanda set up a Facebook donations portal, and within just 8 days, raised a staggering £315 for the Artz Centre, smashing her initial target of £100.
When I asked Amanda about her motivation behind the fundraiser she responded:
“As soon as I logged off the live feed with Mark on 21st of April, I just knew I needed to help. The Artz Centre has been such a huge part of our lives for many years, and to hear they needed our help, I instantly thought… What can I do?”
“I was 40 on 29th of April, so instantly I thought why not ask ask my friends and family, instead of a birthday card or present, a donation would be amazing, and for all proceeds to go to Artz. The money came rolling in, I was so happy and for that I can’t thank everyone enough. We raised £315 altogether for our Artz Family, they deserve it, and more!”
We once again extend a huge thank you to Amanda, her family and friends.
