Over the past few weeks of lockdown, apparently summer has arrived, the weather has (for once) taken a turn for the better, and most of us have taken our home offices to the back step/patio/garden to catch a few rays whilst answering emails.
However, one of our brilliant Senior students, Rosa Taylor, has had much bigger ideas; and made plans that stretched far beyond her back garden. Unbeknown to the Artz Team, on the 4th of May, Rosa had planned for, prepped and completed a huge 5 mile sponsored walk, aiming to raise some funds for the Artz Centre’s buildings during lockdown.
We had absolutely no idea what Rosa was up to, until she surprised us with over £200 of sponsorship money she had drummed up from her friends and family! We couldn’t believe the challenge she had undertaken, and have certainly urged her to continue her “Trekking with Taylor” adventures, (and to shout a little louder about it next time!).
I chatted with Rosa to find out more about this brilliant secret challenge, and here is what she had to say about it all:
Claire: Rosa! You kept all this very quiet. So what gave you the idea for a sponsored walk?
Rosa: Well it was Mark’s video on Friday that really inspired me to come up with a way that I could take action into my own hands. So then all night I was thinking what could I do to help? So I decided to make a poster and some sponsor sheets, to try and help to explain how much the Artz Centre means to me, and to everyone! Everybody I then asked was so generous and willing to sponsor me, so that was really nice!
Claire: What an achievement! We’re so very grateful, and proud of you! What on Earth motivated you to take up this challenge?
Rosa: My love for the Artz Centre and knowing what I am doing is for a good cause was definitely my motivation. It didn’t really seem like much trouble, and I actually really enjoyed it!
Claire: Absolutely amazing. Can you describe your challenge in one word?
Rosa: Exhausting!!!
Claire: Haha. That was probably a silly question. Okay, last question, are we going to see more of “Treks with Taylor” in the future?
Rosa: Oh I love the name! Hopefully we will, I would love to!
We are so impressed with Rosa’s efforts, and we cannot wait to see where Treks with Taylor takes her next. Although we’ve told her to please make sure she tells us next time, so that we can cheer her on! (From a socially distant place, of course).
