When we talk about the ‘Artz Family’, we’re usually referring to the awe-inspiring upwards-of-60-strong team of Artz Staff and volunteers, our incredible students, and each and every outstanding human that contributes to this organisation. We’re an eclectic bunch of folk who regularly transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Yet, this story talks about family in the more ‘traditional’ sense.
John Ashton (or Mark and Mike’s dad, as you may better know him!) is certainly not a new face to the Artz team; but as of the beginning of July, he has joined us in a slightly different role.
As a newly retired man, rather than staying sat at home and enjoying his freedom-from-the-workplace, John has taken up a role within our facilities team, to ensure that both of our buildings remain ship-shape and looking fabulous; as a way to keep busy, and give something back to his local community.
A role that John often contributed towards before his retirement, John can now be found in the grounds of both of our Centres throughout the week, both inside and out in the fresh air, helping to make sure we look our best!
About working so closely with his old fella, Mark commented:
“Being able to offer an opportunity to my own dad is a great feeling. Employing older people can bring a very different set of skills and behaviours to your team and that has certainly been the case already. It’s important that everyone has the opportunity to contribute, and my dad is already doing just that. I am not sure he ever thought he would be starting a new career at 65, but we are glad he did”.
